To escape the cold weather and rain in January, you can shelter in the warm indoors of a cinema. During the Télérama festival, you can see a selection of the best films of 2023, chosen by the French magazine Télérama’s editorial team and screened in several cinemas around the metropolitan area.

How about going to a nice and warm theatre? Whether you’re looking for tragedy, comedy, dance or circus arts, the shows on in January offer a chance to dream and discover artistic talent.

Gourmet events

Epiphany is celebrated on the first Sunday of January, but people in Lyon enjoy their food far too much to limit their enjoyment of the ‘galette des rois’ (Twelfth Night cake) to a single day. In fact, during the whole month of January, people try out the best addresses around the metropolitan area with friends and family (or alone, as many pâtisseries sell delicious individual portions of cake). People from the south of France can even find their traditional ‘brioche des rois’ in Lyon.

Lastly, once every two years in January, Sirha Lyon (the world hospitality and food service event) brings together catering professionals from around the world. During this event, 24 chefs from 24 countries compete to win the highly coveted Bocuse d'Or.
