Lyon the way you like it

Lyon wouldn't be Lyon without its famous squares, listed sites and majestic monuments. Find out all about Lyon's famous heritage!

From the ancient theatres and numerous remains of the Gallo-Roman era to the Vieux-Lyon of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, from the Presqu'île and its classical buildings to the Croix-Rousse of the silk workers... Over time, the city has expanded along the banks of the Saône, then beyond the Rhône, to the Confluence of today, while preserving its heritage.

As a result, each era has left its mark, with architectural, pictorial, literary, silk, gourmet and festive works that have given rise to a real cultural dynamism.

It is for this continuity and architectural harmony that UNESCO has listed Lyon's historic urban site as a World Heritage Site, covering 500 hectares of Fourvière, Vieux-Lyon, the Presqu'île and the slopes of the Croix-Rousse.

It's an accolade of which the people of Lyon are proud!
