Quartier Gratte-Ciel - 69100 Villeurbanne
For the first French Capital of Culture, Royal de Luxe is offering an original new creation: an adventure throughout town, new characters, and unlikely encounters...
The street theatre company Royal de Luxe was created in Nantes, in 1979, by author and director Jean-Luc Courcoult. He has developed various forms of theatre, including “town square theatre”, “window shows”, and “theatrical accidents”.
At the heart of these performances, he creates scenarios where spectators can watch a live shooting of a “photo novel”, meet historical characters, or bring about a peculiar fusion of Shakespeare and Molière on the same stage...
The company is also known around the world for what has become its signature: the “saga of the Giants”, based on stories that unfold in time and space, on the scale of an entire town. For Villeurbanne, Jean-Luc Courcoult has imagined a fresh theatrical form, featuring two giant protagonists in an urban story full of poetry and emotion.
Several hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend this unique performance.
Since 1979, Royal de Luxe has produced 78 street theatre creations, attracting more than 26 million spectators, and bringing 1500 performances to 220 towns and cities in 43 countries, on all five continents.
