Younes Baba-Ali - Dégrisements

La BF15 is pleased to invite Younes Baba-Ali for a residency followed by a solo exhibition. The French-Moroccan artist, who has been living in Brussels since 2011, proposes to explore the extent to which objects and our daily lives are invested with spirituality, superstition and even superficiality.

Last updated date : 01/09/2021
From 10/09 to 06/11/2021 between 2 pm and 7 pm. Closed Monday Tuesday and Sunday.
La BF15 11 quai de la Pêcherie - 69001 Lyon 1er

"On the one hand, I will explore how sacred objects can lose their status and be desecrated in the service of everyday needs. From Ending Your Life Under the Sun - a coffin turned into a sunbed, reflecting the morbid hunt for eternal beauty - to holy books becoming furniture chocks, relics becoming tools, etc. On the other hand, in juxtaposition to this, I will explore how everyday objects are invested with spiritual meaning. Drawing on my Moroccan origins, for example, I will work on a visual dictionary of the many connotations of shoe position and its superstitions. Translating signs of bad luck or good fortune, they carry with them hopes, dreams and fears. "

During his residency at the BF15 this summer, Younes Baba-Ali will relate his research to the spiritual and esoteric context specific to Lyon, whose history is marked by major occult movements, from antiquity to the present day.

Younes Baba-Ali born in 1986 in Oujda (Ma), lives and works in Brussels and Casablanca.
