Prison is a place of confinement, and yet today it has a duty to reintegrate prisoners in civilian life once they have served their sentence. Preparing individuals for a return to freedom after a long period of confinement is a paradox of sorts.
After looking back at the origins of prison in the eighteenth century, the exhibition presents the laws governing the prison system and the limits that are continually pushed back, as those inside try to survive or defy it.
Everyday objects, photographs and artworks created in prison are like so many reflections of the thirst for freedom. The TNG brings an original perspective to the French version of the exhibition, with small optical theatres, which offer visitors an experience that blurs the boundaries between prison and the outside world.
The admission to the Museum and its exhibition is included in the Lyon City Card. (with a dedicated line to avoid queueing).
