The young Ballet du Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon is exploring new choreographic territories with a programme devised by its director Kylie Walters, crowning the training of its dancers before they embark on their professional careers. Four choreographers are featured, combining precise and singular styles. Jan Martens, associate artist of the Maison de la Danse, has created a rigorous, inhabited dance with Any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones, a piece of rare intensity that questions our power to resist and rebel; anatomical and primal, often on the verge of trance, with Hard Life by Sharon Eyal, ex-interpreter of the Batsheva, and her partner Gai Behar; plastic and inventive for Aina Alegre, whose performance seeks to ‘reimagine’ the body; and finally, virtuoso and abundant with Harris Gkekas, a magnificent dancer, who has created a piece for classical ballet. This daring programme confirms the talent of young artists who are rising to new challenges with exacting standards and brio!
