Do you remember eating semolina pudding at school? In France, quenelles sometimes bring back similar memories. However, these authentic, flavoursome and modern quenelles are an altogether different matter.

They can be found at the shop near Place Bellecour or at the counter in the Halles de Lyon food market.

Since 1910, Maison Giraudet has specialised in making durum wheat quenelles – a typical dish from the Bourg-en-Bresse region. It has created more than 30 variations with original recipes. It has also developed a whole range of sauces to accompany them, along with proposing 120 freshly-made soups, which change with the seasons. Production takes place in Bourg-en-Bresse (in the Ain), and the site is open to visitors if you’re curious!

“This is one of my favourite places for a quick lunch break and tasty, local food.

Lying somewhere between modern fast food and a tea room, its light and stylish setting is perfect for a quiet chat during your break.

I should also give special mention to the friendly and attentive welcome and service.

The revisited, light quenelle is served with pumpkin or poppy seeds, with a sauce or pan-fried with a salad, according to the suggestions of the day. Great on cold winter days (but not only!), the delicious soups of the day (often organic) offer surprising flavours.

The food is delicious, light, always fresh, and you can even buy dishes to take away as a treat for friends or loved ones!”
