The TGV (high-speed train) station was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It was inaugurated on 28 June 1994. It is shaped like a huge bird, with a total area of 29,800 m² (400 m long and 53 m wide). The Spanish architect, artist and engineer, Santiago Calatrava Valls was born on 28 July 1951 in Benimámet, near Valence. He currently lives in Switzerland. The site's guided tours consist of technical tours of the airport and TGV station, a bus tour of the runways and a tour of an aeroplane, by appointment. Special tours for schools.
