If you always thought that silk in Lyon is restricted to Jacquard weaving looms and the canuts, L’Atelier de Soierie is here to open up new vistas and show you century-old techniques.
Here, you won't see a "bistanclaque" (the name given to weaving looms in Lyon) but work tables where silks take on a wide array of glorious colours. The workshop, which is still in activity, is specialised in silk squares.
This is your chance to find out all about flat screen printing (a process similar to silk-screen printing) or the dyeing of panne velours velvet. Here, veritable works of art unfold before your very eyes, one colour at a time: Picasso, Klimt and Miró, to name a few. These textile works are sold in the stores of the most prestigious museums. So why not buy your own directly from the manufacturer at the workshop store?
A timeless place where you can talk to enthusiastic artisans busy perpetuating Lyon's textile history!
Eléonore is the romantic member of the team! Rumour has it that she knows her classics better than anyone else, and if you want to strike up a conversation with her, just mention Jane Austen, and you'll be away!
